The Dibbler is a one of the lesser known species of Australian marsupials and it is on the verge of extinction. Providing a description of the Dibbler to players will help aid in their understanding and interpretation of this score. A touching melodic line is played by the 1st violins and represents the voice of the Dibbler crying out for someone to notice his desperate situation. The overall feel of the melodic line is loneliness. Other sections of the orchestra have interesting harmonies that allow for players to concentrate on expression and clear intonation.
