Teaching Notes

Players do not need to use bows at all during performance of this work and should place them aside carefully! It is advisable to check sound levels at certain venues before playing pizzicato in concerts! In the case of outdoor venues or stages without proper amplification, it may be easier to play the entire work with very short bows instead. It is also a good idea for students to try using short bows as well as pizzicato in initial rehearsals so that they can adapt easily to different performing circumstances.
